Language? Empty Language?

Just a query...

Will comics be written in Standard English, or American English?

Should we have a poll?

My feeling is American English, since that's how Hey Arnold! was made (most English-speaking people think of Arnold and the gang as American).

I could be kind of biased, though, since I have a hard time understanding British English sometimes.

Another option is to just leave it up to the writer, so that each episode won't necessarily be uniform in the particular language.

I'm going to make sure that Tendra takes a look at this question to see what she thinks, because it's definitely worth bringing up.

It doesn't really matter to me personally. I'm up for either one. One of my favorite authors is a British writer so I don't have alot of problems reading British English. Smile

I think we should just leave it up to the writer overall, like Funnybones said. Smile

I think we should try to copy the real HA! style as much as possible. Try to write their lines down exactly how the kids would've sounded in the series. There are a lot of characters who use American words, right? Hillwood City is an American city, with American kids, and kids use street language, so I think American English would be best to use.
Then again, it would be fun to read some British english as well, like I learned in school long ago XD

With regards to language, I was mainly referring to spellings...obviously I'm not going to write someone as saying something's "spiffing" or "jolly good" lol Razz

What I'm thinking about is spelling, e.g. colour/color humour/humor etc Smile

Like what the others said, I'm going to say American-English by default, since HA! is originally an American cartoon. But I won't hammer you if you spell "color" like "colour". lol I would leave spelling deviations like that up to the writer.

In terms of slang and such, I would make it American because, again, American cartoon. An obvious exception is where you intend to use slang from another nationality (e.g. because you have a British one-time character).

P.S. I'm moving this thread to the Questions sub-forum.
