Oooooo I definitely like the second one!!!

"Two Thousand and Ten" sounds more natural to me than does "Twenty Ten". I would stick to how you're pronouncing it right now.

And yeah, some additional editing is needed. There are some awkward gaps of silence in there, but no problem; we can fix that.

I kinda realized that the screenshot for when you say "Hey Arnold Season 6 the Comic" (i.e. where we show the edited script) is kinda awkward. It doesn't really fit with me. Perhaps we can show a collage of screenshots showing the development of a comic from script to finish? Here's a pic of what I mean:

Or maybe even a pic of the logo? Or even both? So have the logo for when you say "Hey Arnold Season 6", and then the comic making progress when you say "The Comic"

Ok, cool. I'll use the second microphone the next time I record it.
Next time I record it, I'll try to speak a bit louder. I had to turn the music down a little bit so that you could hear the narration with mic 2, but it's still kind of hard to hear in some places. It would also probably help if I stand up (I was sitting down while I recorded the second track.)

That's a great idea! Very Happy I knew something wasn't quite right about the script at that point, but I didn't know what else to use there. I'll definitely use that collage.

I really like it! Very Happy

Maybe we could use it to replace the slide toward the end of the trailer (~1:17 in the latest version of the trailer) that just says "Hey Arnold! Season 6".

If that sounds good, can you make another one in the same style that says "Coming Fall 2010"?

Also, I just thought of something that might be cool to do with this (if it's possible). Would it be possible to make it into a short animation, so that initially all you see on the screen is "Hey Arnold! Season 6", but then "The Comic" comes floating into frame (or pops into frame, or something like that). Does anyone know how to do that? Question

Logo looks fantastic!

I animated it so that "The Comic" part falls down from ... the sky.

Looks great! Thanks!

Tendra, the animated gif looks great too, but in order to put it into the video I had to convert it into a wmv format. I didn't have any trouble doing that, but the resulting video is only ~370 milliseconds (which is less than half of 1 second).
I was able to slow down the gif animation, but as soon as I converted it to a wmv, it reverted back to the 370 ms length. I'll keep working on it, but I can't guarantee that I'll get it to work Neutral
370 ms just looks like a quick flash on the screen.

Another thing we can try is putting the wmv file in slow motion. The only problem with that, is I don't have any video editing software that is capable of slowing down clips.
If anyone else does, here's the wmv file I created...maybe you could give it a try Question

Here is the credit slide that can go at the very end of the trailer. I based this off of an actual movie trailer.

http://i16.servimg.com/u/f16/13/86/34/72/credit13.jpg

Please take a look at it and let me know what you think. I used the names of the people working on the first episode project, since those are the only clips that went into making this trailer. I couldn't remember who did the editing, though.
Am I missing anyone else? Is this how you would like your name to appear in the credits? Do you think I should make the background white with black text, or do you like it the way it is?

Also I didn't have any luck in shortening out that animation, Tendra. So, I think someone else is going to have to try it with some better video editing software, or we won't be able to use it pale

You're using Windows Movie Maker, right Funnybones?

I tried importing the video in WMM as the GIF sequence file, and it worked. Did a window pop up for you saying the file is incompatible or were you just unable to find the file while trying to upload it? If the latter is the case, just enter "All Files" under the tab "Files of Type". The only problem I see with uploading it is that I think the logo is too wide, so it's squished <_<

Anyway, I imported it in WMM and then exported it as a wmv. file in case it you still can't upload it. Here we go:

http://rapidshare.com/files/329076867/Animation_Logo.wmv.html

(It should be 1.33 seconds long) Let me know how that works Very Happy

Yep, I'm using windows movie maker

The problem I had before when I tried importing the gif, was that it wouldn't animate once I imported it. It's possible that I imported the wrong file before, though, because I tried it again and it works fine.

It's still a bit too short, though. It's probably going to have to be 3-4 seconds long. Would you be able to extend it a little bit longer (maybe just the last frame)?

There are still some other timing issues that I need to work out, but I'm waiting to get the artwork from the 3 missing scenes in the trailer before I start working out timing issues (at 42 s, 46 s, and 1:12 of the latest version).

I'll upload the latest version of the trailer, but first let me point out the changes I made and the time in bold parentheses:

  • Full screen animation was added (1:16).
  • The jpeg (widescreen) still of the final frame of this animation was inserted right behind the animation keep the soundtrack in sync with the video. Obviously, it doesn't look quite right, but it's just a place holder for now (1:18)
  • A higher quality version of the HA! title card was added (0:27)
  • Another updated version of the credits was added (1:26)

Things that still need to be done:

  • Artwork for 0:42, 0:46, and 1:12
  • Increase the length of Lyxy/Tendra's animation
  • Un-squish the "Coming Fall 2009" slide to match the animation (Tendra, could you do this? I have no idea how you did it.)
  • Adjust the timing of all the different clips
  • Re-record the narration for clarity and so it's in sync with the video.
  • Make a few adjustments to the music, and see which version is best
  • Publish video!

Okay, so here's the latest version:

Sure, I can reanimate it

I noticed that the screencaps you used for "Hey Arnold Season 6 The Comic" and "Coming Fall 2010" look a bit different (i.e. the shade of yellow is different and there's some shading I noticed). Is it alright if I use that version?

Also, before I remake it, what background should we use? Do we leave it white or did we want black? Or should we use a pattern?
E.g:

I couldn't get the background by itself, and without the Nickelodeon logo in one of the corners. If you want to use this background, can you get me a screencap of it without the logo on it? I can smack the two pictures together then.

One last thing: since it looks like we're using the pic that says "Hey Arnold Season 6 The Comic", we should probably say "HA! Season 6 The Comic" instead of just "Hey Arnold Season 6". That way that the animation becomes more fitting.

Yes, of course. Use which ever version you'd like.

I love the pattern. I think we should use that. Btw, Hellerick, thank you for posting that! I've been trying to find something like that for a long time. Very Happy

Are you referring to the narration here? I'll be sure to say "Hey Arnold! Season 6", then I'll wait for "The Comic" to land in place before I say that part of the narration.

Well, I'm not really sure what should go at 0:42. At that point in the video, the narration says "New Situations"...so I guess something situational, lol. I think pretty much anything would work there, so feel free to be creative.

At 0:46 I think it would be good to have Helga holding her locket and running through one of her dramatic soliloquies.

At 1:12 the narration says "[Follow] the rest of the gang through mishaps, mayhem, and adventure", so probably a piece with a group of people together...maybe Harold, Stinky, and Sid getting into some kind of mischief; or maybe even the boarders with Grandma and Grandpa. The focus of this scene of the trailer can be of anyone except Arnold, Gerald, and Helga (they can be in the scene, but the scene shouldn't be focused on any of the main three).

I got the animation ready (it's a bit different... still falling from the sky but now it bounces!), but I'm having trouble exporting it :T

Just a quick question: is your WMM compatible with avi files? Mine isn't, so I might just have to send you the avi file and have you glue the "HA! Season 6 The Comic" and "Coming Fall 2010" together.

And yeah, I'm referring to the narration when I said we should say "HA! Season 6... The Comic"

My WMM isn't compatible with avi files, but I do have a conversion program that will convert between avi files and wmv files; so you can go ahead and send me the avi if you can't get it to work.

Re: Trailer Script/Artwork

Post by tendra91 on Sun Jan 03, 2010 6:30 am

Thanks for the background Hellerick!

Funnybones: Okay, that's fine. I managed to export the animation into an acceptable avi file, and even though my WMM is normally not compatible with avi files, I managed to import it fine (O_o) So try importing the file as the original avi file before you try to convert it into a wmv file.

I tried piecing together the "HA! Season 6 The Comic" and "Coming Fall 2010" together before giving to you, but my WMM kept on crashing (which is kinda normal for my silly desktop that I wanna smash at times <_<), so I'm going to give you each of the original files. You're going to have to piece it yourself (sorry! ) There are 4 in total (3 pics and 1 movie clip).

Here's my suggestion on how to put them together:
1. Picture with only "Hey Arnold Season 6"; you may have to shorten it for timing purposes
2. Animation clip
3. Picture with "Hey Arnold Season 6 The Comic"; you may have to shorten it for timing purposes
4. Do a video transition (specifically "Rectangle"); you may have to speed it up to get the desired "swooshing" effect that I kinda had in mind
5. Picture of "Coming Fall 2010"; you may have to shorten it for timing purposes

Here are the files:
Pic #1:
Animation: http://rapidshare.com/files/329567601/Animation_Logo__1.avi.html
Pic #2:
Pic #3:

Let me know how it goes. If you're not successful (god forbid! j/k j/k), I'll jab another attempt with my WMM before handing it to you again.

Lyxy, I think it looks fantastically amazing.

Don't worry too much about the size. As long as it's not too small to see in the video, it should be okay. The size you have works great.

I'll let you decide on whether or not you'd like a background. I think it will look great in the video without a background, but feel free to put a background in if you'd like.

Re: Trailer Script/Artwork

Post by tendra91 on Mon Jan 04, 2010 6:50 am

The trailer looks good to me so far! Just some things I noticed that we can probably fix though:

I like how the screenshot of Big Caesar pops up just when the jazzy instruments start, after Marty's logo animation at the beginning. But the pause in between the actual animation and the Big Caesar screenshot is a bit awkward. I would suggest adding something extra, such as a fake "Rated G" rating ect. before the animation.

E.g.

So it would be something like Rated G --> Marty's animation --> Big Caesar. That way the trailer can keep running smoothly while keeping the song the way it is. Or if you want, we can cut the song shorter in the beginning.

I also did a watercolor rendition of the flying Pigeon Man scene that you had, and managed to finish today! So here it is:

The end is pretty good! Thanks for piecing it together! Very Happy I would make the rectangle transition a bit faster, and shorten the part where it says "Hey Arnold Season 6 The Comic" (right after the animation I gave you), so that you can say "Hey Arnold Season The Comic Coming Fall 2010" smoothly. But I'm guessing that'd be done when timing of the shots get fixed

I also noticed one more ironic scene. I'm not sure if it was intentional, but you know the part where you say "the story continues like you've never seen it before"? Is it ironic that we show a scene of a fairly common running gag in the series when we say that? I was thinking that we could should something else, like the shot of one or more of the HA! characters gasping and being suprised at something off-screen. Or something. I'm not sure.

I'm actually waiting to get the rest of the artwork before I make too many changes to the timing. I think I'll try recording the narration first so I don't get rushed while I talk, and maybe that will help me with the timing.
I can definitely add the green band to the beginning of the trailer, though (lol, maybe we should use the red band to make it look like an R-rated trailer and we'd get a bigger audience jk jk).

tendra91 wrote:I also noticed one more ironic scene. I'm not sure if it was intentional, but you know the part where you say "the story continues like you've never seen it before"? Is it ironic that we show a scene of a fairly common running gag in the series when we say that?
That actually was intentional. The idea was to show the audience that we haven't changed things around too much, but we aren't doing everything exactly the same, either. But maybe you're right...it could be too confusing, ironic, and subtle. I do think it's important to show a scene from the comic at that point in the video, though. I think we want to try to convey that what the audience has "never seen before" is a 6th season of HA! in comic form, as clearly as possible. Maybe we could just use a panel or two of something else that's already been penciled (like maybe part of the Monkeyman/Vitello scene on page 1?)

Beautiful rendition of the Pigeon Man scene.
Here's the big question: Do we want to just use the screen shots (of Big Caesar, Helga through glass, and Arnold's big smile) in the trailer, or do we want to actually use artists renditions of them? I have no problem using the screen shots in the video, but do you think that it would be inconsistent to have a bunch of screen shots and your rendition of Pigeon Man in the middle? And probably more importantly, do you (or anyone else) have the time/motivation to do renditions of 3 more screenshots?
Like I said, I think it looks fine, but I'd like to know what you think too Tendra (or anyone else lol)

Unfortunately, I'm way too tired to put it into the trailer tonight, and then go through all the publishing and uploading to rapidshare, etc. So, you'll have to wait until tomorrow to see what it looks like in the trailer. Razz
Goodnight.

Okay, here's the latest version to the trailer:
http://rapidshare.com/files/330433315/Trailer_with_narration_mic_2_v5.wmv.html

Here are the changes I made:

  • Added the green MPAA band (0:00)
  • Shortened the animation to ~5 seconds (0:03.57)
  • Added Tendra's rendition of "Pigeon Man" (0:17)
  • Added Lyxy's "Helga" piece (0:46)
  • Shortened the "rectangle" transition to ~0.5 seconds (does that look okay, Tendra?) (1:20.57)

I didn't make any changes to the "Eugene" scene of the trailer, because I'm still waiting for some more feedback on that.
