Help needed for 'Helga's Bow' - Various Roles Available
Hey there!
We're needing help with the proposed second episode, 'Helga's Bow'.
We require:
1 + Editors (coloredskies84 will be one of the editors)
1 + Storyboard/Thumbnail Artist (retromanka will be storyboard artist, but we still may need another)
1 + Pencil Artist
2 Colourists (There are three roles - one for block colouring, one for shading, one for highlights...I'd be happy to do any of the three)
1 + Background Artist
At present I am writing the script and I also plan to do the line art, some of the colouring and the covers.
Here's a draft plot synopsis:
It's the week before Rhonda's birthday, and her parents have bought her an awful pink dress to wear to school. After the dress is ruined by mud, Helga makes fun of her. Curly plots revenge on Helga by stealing her bow to give to Rhonda at her party. Helga is left devastated by the theft of her bow, but Curly doesn't stop there, and soon every girl in the class has been a victim of Curly's plan. Arnold and Phoebe try to coax Helga back to school, and the class try to find out who the thief is.
Current Team:
sueKay - Group Leader, script writer, line artist, colourist, cover artist
coloredskies84 - Editor
Retromanka - Thumbnail/storyboard artist
Any offers of help would be greatly appreciated!

I can be inker and colorist. (I'm not sure if shading and highlights technique is what we need though.)
Re: Help needed for 'Helga's Bow' - Various Roles Available
I could help with the storyboard and thumbnail.
Re: Help needed for 'Helga's Bow' - Various Roles Available
I'd love to help as a pencil artist or a cartoonist! Or thumbnail/storyboard! Just not all that great with backgrounds...stupid bushes.

Re: Help needed for 'Helga's Bow' - Various Roles Available
SueKay, as an "inker", what kind of pictures and files do you suppose to produce? Vector files? Neatly redrawn (by hand) jpegs? Something else?
Re: Help needed for 'Helga's Bow' - Various Roles Available
Neatly drawn jpegs I would imagine...I should be able to do the inking...colouring would be whatever technique that would give the best results
Re: Help needed for 'Helga's Bow' - Various Roles Available
If you'd need any help with the inking, just ask me, I'd be happy to help ^^ I'm doing the inking for the Ghost Kid episode.
I'm using Adobe Illustrator, and I make vector files. (If you don't have Illustrator, but want to try vector lines, you can download a program called "Inkscape". It's free to download and use.) Those vectors are VERY handy, because you can resize them to any possible size without losing quality, and it's very easy to change and add little things. And besides that, it's very easy to add the background, because the drawings stand loose from the background, and you don't have to delete white backgrounds like you have to do when using jpegs.
But if you want to use pixel-based pictures like jpeg, you'd better start with a huge size (I'm using letter size, with 300 dpi), that way you won't loose a lot of quality when editing. And you'd better not save the files as jpeg (because every time you open and save the file again it looses quality), better save it as .psd of .tiff , those files are big, but don't use compression, so the quality stays best.

I prefer PNG as lossless format.
And I really like vectorizing pictures. I would want to try making vector pictures out of somebody's pencil sketches.

Re: Help needed for 'Helga's Bow' - Various Roles Available
I never used PNG before.. is it possible to work with layers, with png files?
We weren't allowed to use PNG at school because they told us that PNG was only meant for transferring images on the Internet, not for professional graphics, because it has too few options and doesn't support other color spaces like CMYK.
I don't think we need any CMYK images, but I usually prefer to work with layers, so you can easily relocate text bulbs and objects which were drawn on top of each other, without having to redraw parts of the objects or characters. And that's what psd and tiff files CAN do, they both support layers, and both use lossless compressions.

Re: Help needed for 'Helga's Bow' - Various Roles Available
No, PNG does not support layers (at least I don't know about it), but I guess the layers are not necessary until the very last sage of work. PNG is kinda sister format with SVG, and along with Inkscape it's part of the free software philosophy. When I work in Inkscape I usually have one central SVG file which transcludes several raster images kept in PNG files.
BTW I don't remember my experience with Adobe Illustrator, but I like Inkscape much better than Corel Draw. It's free and yet very neat.
