Curly Gets Cool
Episode idea:
When I think cool characters, I automatically think Gerald. When I think crazy...I think Curly. I really like the idea of Curly coming to Gerald for tips on how to be cool and fashionable, in a most likely misguided attempt to get Rhonda to finally like him. Hilarity ensues. I have ideas, but I'd like someone else to edit my writing for me, and of course I'd need artists.
If there's interest in the project I'll work up a script, but I don't want to put a lot of effort into a script only to not be able to find an artist.

Re: Curly Gets Cool
I like that idea. Gerald is the epitome of cool, after all
A few suggestions, is that you might want to post the specifics of your ideas to hopefully spark the artists' interest and get feedback from other brainstormers. You can do that here in the general discussion.
You can also start working on an outline and/or rough draft, if you'd like.
Make sure you read this article about proposing an episode.

Re: Curly Gets Cool
I read it, but it seemed I'd need a staff before I could really post it. But you're right, I'll elaborate on my idea here (and thanks for the info, it is very helpful. This is a wonderfully sweet community!!!):
Deeper plot: Once more, Curly has declared his love to Rhonda Wellington Lloyd (complete with flowers, a banner and a very embarrassing love song he wrote for her). Not only does she reject him, she rips the banner down, wraps him in it and pushes him into a dumpster, declaring loudly that there's no way he'd ever be good enough for him.
A normal guy would be heartbroken...but Curly's not exactly what one would define as normal. He figures to himself that he's lacking style. He's just not cool enough for someone as up to date on fashion as Rhonda. Just as he's thinking this over, he notices Gerald down the hall, flirting with Phoebe and getting a much better response out of her than Curly managed to get from Rhonda. Curly corners Gerald and requests just one thing - please, please, PLEASE, help him be cool. At first, Gerald doesn't want to help, but Curly is persistent, following him around the rest of the day, until lunch where Gerald has unfortunately forgotten his lunch money. So Curly makes him a deal - he'll buy lunch, but Gerald has to help him be cool. Unfortunately for Gerald, he skipped breakfast this morning, and he begrudgingly takes Curly's deal.
The first thing Gerald does is a complete make over - gel in Curly's hair, a change of attire (to a basketball jersey and blue jeans, changing the shoes to chuck) and taking Curly's glasses and replacing them with shades (which unfortunately, are not prescription. Curly can't see a thing). Before Gerald can finish making him cool, Curly runs off, having spotted Rhonda across the street from where they were shopping. Rhonda seems to be repulsed (especially as Curly comes on just as strongly and creepily as he always does), and Gerald pulls him back, insisting that he's not done yet.
Rhonda's aversion to Curly is so strong, Gerald declares, that he has to become the 'bad boy cool boy'. From then on, he's instructed to pretend Rhonda doesn't exist. Anytime she talks, Curly talks over her. She tries to talk to Curly about his rude behavior, but he laughs in her face, saying "Hey, toots, I do what I want, when I want." He mistakes the fact that Rhonda's talking to him more as her genuinely being interested, until Rhonda goes to Arnold to beg him to talk Curly into going back to his version of 'normal'. "I actually miss him being a freak!" Rhonda declares, surprising herself.
Arnold takes Curly to the sid and explains everything. Curly gets upset, as he spent so much time and effort trying to become what he thought Rhonda would want. Rhonda was listening in on the conversation, and she comes out from her hiding spot behind the lockers and puts a hand on Curly's shoulder, explaining to him that "I'd rather you be a sweet weirdo that follows me around and creeps me out than a jerk." He attempts to ask her out again, to which she quickly says no to. But when he looks downhearted, she sighs and offers to take him shopping, explaining that the clothes Gerald had him in were all wrong for him, and telling him she could find him something much more appropriate and far cooler. Arnold smiles at them as they walk off together, Rhonda grabbing Curly before he runs into the locker. It ends with Gerald running after them, trying to give Curly his glasses back.
So...that's the idea. I'm sorry if it's not very good, I came up with the whole idea in less than an hour. I still need people to work on if it anyone's interested.

Re: Curly Gets Cool
Ok, cool. I just wanted to make sure that you knew exactly which staff members you needed in order to propose an episode (for example, 2 editors); and that you need to submit an outline along with your proposal.Perhapsormaybe wrote:I read it, but it seemed I'd need a staff before I could really post it. Just a couple of my quick notes:
This reminded me a lot of "Curly's Girl", when Curly made a deal with Rhonda. You might want to consider finding a way to have Gerald help Curly out without any deals. Maybe Gerald eventually feels sorry for him...or Arnold feels sorry for him, which convinces Gerald to feel sorry for him. I don't know, it's just a minor issue and I'm sure it would work fine with the deal too.Perhapsmaybe wrote:So Curly makes him a deal - he'll buy lunch, but Gerald has to help him be cool. I really like that linePerhapsormaybe wrote:"I actually miss him being a freak!" Rhonda declares, surprising herself.
To me, it seems like there should be a scene with Arnold talking to Gerald about the situation before he goes to Curly. I'm not really sure what would be in that scene, though. (I was thinking either a minor argument/fight or an agreement between the two that things have gotten out of hand and they need to do something fast.)Perhapsormaybe wrote:Arnold takes Curly to the sid and explains everything.
Re: Curly Gets Cool
I was originally planning on having Arnold convince Gerald, but I was worried it might be out of character for Arnold to encourage someone to change to impress somebody.
Re: Curly Gets Cool
And the other issue is I have a different idea I like more...I still like this one, but I'm wondering if I should work on the other idea and then come out and flesh this one out later...
Re: Curly Gets Cool
No problem at all. I'm glad I could help. Looking forward to seeing the other idea

This is a great idea for an episode. LOVE the Curly-Rhonda dynamic.

Re: Curly Gets Cool
Well, I'm concentrating more on "Helga On the Court", and I am ....kind of busy (I don't have a job, but I've got a 9 month old), so if someone would like to head this project and/or write the script they can have the idea. If no one else wants it I'll return to this idea when the other episode is finished.
