Take a look at some of my sketches:
http://gjsmo.deviantart.com/art/Hey-Arnold-sketches-253534064
I'm going to redraw the portion with Arnold and the thought bubble, and I would love your help.
I'm going to be using Apple's old slogan of "Think Different." - seems to fit Arnold's personality quite well.
Tell me what you want to be in his thought bubble. Preferably nothing hard to draw (sorry, I'm not that good) Sad.
I'll decide after I get a good amount of suggestions, and personalize the poster (somehow) for the winner(s). I'm thinking your username/real name in hand-lettered Blackletter (also known as Old English), maybe with some small thing you like next to it.

And please feel free to critique my art. I wasn't looking at anything when I drew these, and I hadn't drawn anything HA!-related (no characters, that is) before.

Hey gjsmo,

For not looking at the originals, these are quite good drawings! You've got the basic characteristics for both Arnold and Helga drawn fairly well! If you would like some help with figuring out the proportions of Helga and Arnold, there's a mini-tutorial on the the Hey Arnold! Critical Analysis site here: http://haca.wordpress.com/category/drawing-tips/

I've seen them - I think I'll look at them a bit more (but I've got Helga down now, I think). Stinky's harder than I though... he keeps looking like a zombie (along with Gerald).

I definitely think Arnold is the hardest to draw. I dunno, something about his hair is always difficult for me, plus I always sucked at drawing hats. Helga's definitely the easiest. Her body's a big long triangle! LOL. Don't worry-- keep practicing and it will get easier! It's always difficult to adjust your style to match another artist's, and the HA! style isn't the simplest. For the most part, the most distinctive part of each character is their head shape. Definitely work on that first. Smile Arnold is more a loaf of bread than a football, Eugene's head is like a soup can, etc....
Definitely try using some of the great "How to Draw Helga/Arnold/Whoever" tutorials out there. They are great. <3

As for the contest idea...sounds fun! I'd love to see what everyone comes up with.

I'd love to see what YOU come up with.

Arnold is easy. Helga's not bad. Neither is Brainy.

EDIT: FYI, I'm quite certain my drawing is getting better (I just haven't posted anything yet). I'm really looking for ideas though on what to draw. I seem to lack inspiration, but once I get it, I can fill pages with doodles (some quite elaborate). I once filled an entire page of test paper (marked "Intentionally left blank" or something in the middle) with doodles, in like 15 minutes (it was the PSAT).

Haha, Brainy's head is fun. Front is rounded, back is straight. XD

And as for what I'd put in the thought bubble...hmm. Arnold is always thinking of wild, fantastic adventures, but that sounds hard to draw. So let's say he thinks outside the box (this would be a great time for a visual pun: a box, and the word THINK outside it. LOL). We could do visual puns, like a brain with a thundercloud over it (brainstorm), a bat with a baseball for a body (baseball bat), or a banana cut down the middle vertically (a banana split). XD

I love it...

When I say hard to draw, I would like to add - I can draw architecture sort of well - alright, I'm okay...
I suck at art, alright? Cartoons are (generally) easy. So... yeah.

But I can certainly draw those. Maybe something a bit more complex can happen, if I take my time.

Haha, I'm the opposite. I suck at architecture and drawing objects and am only good at drawing characters/animals. My drawings hardly ever have any scenery...LOL.

Anyway, I like the idea of it being something simple, but profound in his thought bubble. Like the visual pun. You have to think before you understand it.
Alternatively, it could be something strange and imaginative, like...water-skiing on dolphins. LOL.

I said nothing of scenery. I mean man-made - buildings (internal and external views), urban areas in general, and some forms of machinery (the mechanical, smoke-belching kind, not good-looking stuff with cables (impossible to draw, BTW) running everywhere and looking like the matrix).

Where in the world do you live? Your post is dated Yesterday at 11:59pm here in New York State.

Anyone? Anyone?

I'll go with Mega's ideas then... I guess. Not that they're bad, I was just hoping for a bigger turnout.

I'm 16, and I can pretty much stay up as late as I want... and I do.

But why were you always posting at 11PM or later? Seriously, no time in the day? I say "were" because now you post at whenever...

Since I guess you won, would you like anything in particular on the poster? That is, your name, something you like etc... It's yours unless someone speaks up between now and the time I finish drawing it (which could be a while, since I haven't started Embarassed ).

Hmmm...I'd like him to be thinking of swimming through the air with some winged fish. :3 It just seems like it'd be fun to draw.

Definitely a good idea... think I'll put Arnold in the middle, "swimming" in the clouds, with a thought bubble surrounding him.

Winged fish... I have no idea what those look like. I'll figure something out, but I suspect something will be out of proportion... My two biggest problems are proportion (when free-handing - which is always) and textures/shading (i.e. I cannot draw tree leaves or spheres - not well, at least).

You could look at real flying fish and turn their fins into wings. Wink
