A Friendship Stronger than Diamond

Inspired by one of Arnold's memories in an amazing Fanfic, Arnold's Couch Confessions.

So, we should have an episode on how Helga and Phoebe became friends. Whether Phoebe and Helga get into a fight, or they have to do an essay about friendship, there should be some way to have them reflect back on when they were first friends, and maybe history of their friendship from then on.

Arnold, three years old, was not having a very good first day of preschool anymore.

Sure he'd managed to make one good friend in Gerald, but he couldn't stop thinking about Helga, the first girl he'd ever met. The first kid he'd really wanted to be friends with for some reason.

'What happened to her?' Arnold thought to himself, very much confused. She'd seemed so nice before, shy, even a little bit afraid of everyone, but nice and normal none-the-less. Then all of a sudden, it was like she became someone else. A whole different person. A bully.

All day long, he'd watched as Helga pushed around all of the other kids, yelling and scowling at them, threatening to beat them up if they bugged her, or didn't do as she said.

She was the worst to him, and that got to Arnold the most. She picked on him, made fun of his nose, his ears, his hair . . . and she kept calling him "football-head."

It made Arnold angry. All he tried to do was be nice to her, to be her friend. He'd honestly liked her since he first saw her in the rain, her cute pink bow and those large, blue eyes. He tried to focus on that, but all he could think about now was how angry she made him, and how hurt he felt when she called him names and picked on him.

Suddenly, Arnold heard laughter coming from the other side of the preschool room. He looked over and saw Harold, the same large kid from earlier, along with two other kids, a tall one with a large nose named Stinky and a short, greasy-looking one named Sid, all gathered around the small Oriental girl with the blocks. The blocks were now scattered everywhere and the girl was crying softly as the three boys stood over her laughing.

Arnold was mad again. He'd had enough of bullies for one day. He was about to go over and stop them, even though he was a lot shorter than Harold and Stinky and had absolutely no idea what he would do, when someone beat him to the punch. Literally!

Helga stomped over to the three boys and, using a cardboard checkerboard, hit Harold, the largest of the three, in the nose with it hard enough to knock him off of his feet. Arnold cringed at the sound the board hitting the bigger kid's nose made.

Helga stood over Harold, her shadow eclipsing him, scowled and raised 'Ole Betsy' and 'The Five Avengers' into fighting position. "Hey! Why don't you three losers pick on someone your own size!" she shouted, bravely facing the three boys. Even though they were bigger than her, if those odds intimidated Helga in any way, she didn't show it outwardly.

Harold began to cry loudly, holding his now swollen red nose and shouting, "Aaahhh! Mommy!" He ran off. Stinky and Sid took off after him, looking over their shoulders to make sure Helga wouldn't chase them down and do who knows what to them. Helga smirked wickedly in triumph.

The small Oriental girl stood up and hugged Helga tightly around the middle. "Oh, thank you! Thank you!"

Helga shoved her back and brushed herself off, "Yeah, yeah. Stop sucking up, ya baby!" Then she looked down at the smaller kid and smiled, "Don't worry, those goons won't bother you again. Not while I'm around!" She held up 'Ole Betsy' and smiled at it.

"What's your name, kid?" Helga asked, with surprising compassion in her voice.

The Japanese girl blinked, then answered meekly. "Phoebe."

Helga put an arm around her. "Well, Feebs, you stick with me and I won't let anyone mess with you again." Phoebe looked up at Helga and smiled widely, a strong bond of friendship already forming.

So, how about it? I'm willing to leave the subject of how they reflect this memory open for discussion.

It's adorable.
I was thinking what if they got in a fight, Pheobe tells a few people about it(they start taking sides, or they all take Pheobe side and everyone is against Helga , leaving Helga alone.

Or their out into a trust class (?) and it all goes wrong?

Phoebe doesn't seem like the gossip queen, though. I would think she might want to keep it a secret xD But I love the idea of people ganging up on Helga; maybe people can find out on their own, or maybe witness the fight.

I can imagine Helga storming around, acting meaner than usual, but just not getting around without a sidekick. xD She could be sitting there at lunch, waiting for Phoebe to buy it for her, and then realize that Phoebe's mad at her, and that Miriam or Bob never pack her anything. "Criminey! I'm gonna starve without Phoebe getting my lunch!"

I was thinking either Arnold should say this to make it similar to the story, or maybe Phoebe should say it to give a better perspective on her feelings.

Who knows, maybe Phoebe could have been bullied by Helga earlier that day in preschool, and we could have her surprised that she was standing up for her

XD Poor Helga! you know, I always thought that Arnold and Pheobe are the ones keeping up like glue.

Maybe Pheobe was nice to her, like Arnold, soHelga decides to return the favor.
I wonder if that's why Pheobe lets Helga order her around?

Umm, this is an awesome idea for an episode, but I really like it the way DarthRoden wrote it, and if we used his scene we'd have to get his permission. ._.;

Don't worry, I already sent him a message while I was writing this If he doesn't respond, then we won't do it.

Peachcake: I mean if we had Arnold trying to remind Phoebe of why they were great friends, it would be good because we could both show how early in the school year they became friends and it would basically be the same as DarthRoden's story. If we had Phoebe remember it by herself, it would be good because we could see a different point of view on the same story.

I think if we do this scene, then we should do the one with Phoebe's point of view... I think it would be cute. :3

I'm not sure if it's going to come soon or not; I mean, DarthRoden has kinda not updated on his Fanfiction page since 2009, apparently. I mean 7 months is longer than it sounds xD

If we don't get a response in the next week, maybe we can just think of something else?

Anyway, something that was mentioned in the other thread...maybe we get both sides of the story of how they met? And when Helga shows the bullies what for in Phoebe's memory, Helga would appear as like this shining, triumphant figure with a colorful, eye-popping superhero-sort-of background XD

Ahah)) I thought if that was a dream from both sides, how it sees Helga and Phoebe to make a hillarious difference. Or you've already said it? xD

Phoebe will look like a poor helpless little waif in tattered clothing and stuff...XD

Person: wow, then what happened

*viking Helga scene*
Helga: *looks at Harold, she knocks him down, then puts foot on his belly*
*Then she looks all triumphant, and Pheobe looks beat up*

*Cuts to reality*
*Setting: preeschool*
*Helga narrating*
Helga: Then he ran away like a baby. *little Harold is shown running away*
*cuts to Helga's bedroom*
Person: and Pheobe?

*cuts to Pheobe* *this scene happens as if the person ask Pheobe "And Helga?"*
Pheobe:Well. . .
*Pheobe doesn't narrate but remembers*
Little Helga: Whats your name Kid?
Little Pheobe: Pheobe
Little Helga: Stick with me kid! (other little Helga stuff)

*cuts to Helga and Pheobe (half and half) looking up in a thoughtful/in a small smile*
Both Helga and Pheobe: I made a friend. . .

BTW, who should Helga and Pheobe talk to?

Arnold and Gerald? Phoebe's parents and Dr. Bliss? >.< I can't think of anything better.

I think for Pheobe it should be Arnold and for Helga it should Dr.Bliss.
