Some other minor changes?
Pie01's question about character outfits made me start thinking about some other minor details we could change to make the show seem a little more modern.
For example, we could change Bob's store into a cell phone store (does anyone use beepers anymore?) We could replace that old, bulky cathode ray tube TV in Helga's living room with a flat screen TV hanging from the wall (Bob seems like the kind of guy to want the latest in home entertainment). Maybe replacing Arnold's computer with a laptop. Stuff like that.
Nothing that would really change the feel of HA!, but enough to show that we're keeping up with the times lol.
Any thoughts on this?

Re: Some other minor changes?
It might even be cool to make an episode about Bob changing stores from a beeper to cell phone store, learning to "go w/ the flow" kind of thing. Flat screen TV in Helga's living room, I can see happen as well. Laptop in Arnold's room... I'm not too sure. Maybe. Arnold's not exactly the richest kid in the neighbourhood, per say.
Re: Some other minor changes?
lol, Arnold's not the richest kid in the neighborhood...but in the show he did have a computer as a 4th grader in the mid 90's (not to mention his incredible sound system and the rest of his remote control room). Maybe he makes all his stuff???
Re: Some other minor changes?
He seems like the kind of kid who saves up for what he is interested in and is actually disciplined enough not to spend his allowance on candy or the newest video game so he can add to the sound system in that awesome room of his. Or only ask for one thing for Christmas or something.
I think the idea of making modern changes is awesome. Especially the beeper thing. Maybe he sells both beepers and cell phones now?

Re: Some other minor changes?
Hey yeah, good idea ^^
The new Simpsons episodes are changed too, anyone noticed? A new intro, with flatscreen tv..
I think it would be cool to give em flatscreens and smaller cell phones (maybe even those touch-screen things) and notebooks and maybe some modern schoolstuff.
That's it, the old city and the old boarding house and the old school should stay the way they are. nostalgic

Re: Some other minor changes?
Yeah, I think you're right Dpshrineinclosetgirl, Arnold probably has a lot more patience than I do.
I did notice the flatscreen tv on the intro to the Simpsons. I'm glad they didn't change the intro too much
I think Helga was the only one with a cell phone in the past (that gigantic flip phone lol). I don't know about giving all of them cell phones...although, I found out by helping out with a science class for some 4th graders that a lot of 4th graders have their own cell phone (something like 75% of the class).
That might work out as an episode too. Technology becomes a distraction and starts tearing friendships apart, grades start falling, teachers get mad, etc.
But, yes, I agree that the city and the boarding house should stay the same.

Re: Some other minor changes?
We could make an episode about Big Bob's beeper finding out that he definitly needs to sell cellphones as well... and maybe another in which someone breaks Arnold's computer during one of those "Boy-only" thing they do sometime and so, all his friend would put money aside to give him a new one? ='
And maybe another one in which someone, brings his/her new cellphone in class and mr. simmons gets mad, and it is taken away by the headmaster?

Re: Some other minor changes?
Well, I don't think we have to make an episode about everything. I like the idea about an episode where Big Bob has to change his store because no one wants beepers anymore, but I think the rest of the changes should be very subtle.
OR
we could tie all of the ideas into one mega "technological update" episode.

Making your own computer... damn, that's one smart kid! Or even winning a laptop in a contest or something, that'd be cool.

I could definitely see Helga with a new cell phone (second to Rhonda, of course lol). Wow, I had no idea kids these day were so techy and advanced lol That actually reminds me of one of the more recent Simpsons episodes where Ms. Krabappel (in episode "Bart Gets a Z") sees all her students w/ cellphones and she's all like, "You're all children! Why do you need cellphones?!"
The tech episode would be cool to see

Peachcake, when I first saw that, it gave me this really great idea for an episode; but I didn't post what I was thinking right away and now I can't remember what it was.peachcake21 wrote:Big Bob's Cellphones!

Something about Big Bob changing the Beeper Emporium to a Cell phone Emporium and then giving really good deals to everyone, but tricking them into signing really bad contracts. I don't know...it wasn't exactly that. It was so much better.
Stupid short term memory
Re: Some other minor changes?
Yes, and then everyone goes to the Cellphone emporium with pitchforks and falmed torches!
I always wondered why pitchforks?
This topic makes me think that the series occurs during the late 90's and early 2000's.

Re: Some other minor changes?
Cellphone change over I most definitely second (...does anybody know someone who isn't a doctor that has a beeper?). I don't really agree with the idea of Arnold having a laptop.
As for the kids having cells, I'm certain Rhonda would have one, but I'm not too sure about the other kids.
and it's cause pitchforks are the mob weapon of choice. They go anywhere, they're stabby and you can jab at people from a foot or two away. Yes sir, pitchforks are the only way to go!

Big Bob's Torch and Pitchfork Emporium? Buy two torches and get a Make Your Own Effigy Set absolutely free! Remember; you haven't truly invested in your indignant wrath until you visit Big Bob's; there for all your angry mob needs!

Re: Some other minor changes?
I agree that a little updating would be a great idea. And I could definately see an episode about Big Bob switching store formats!
