Holiday Special
Just a thought.. but maybe we could do another holiday special, if there are any left ^^
I like almost every holiday special, most of them involve H/A.. We've had Christmas, Valentines Day, Halloween, Thanksgiving, April Fools, Parents Day (so that would be like mothers and/or fathers day), Summer (not really a holiday, but I guess we can count that as a holiday anyway)..
That leaves Easter (but I think that might be a little childish, even for 9-year olds), and New Year's Eve..
And I think New Year would be awesome ^^
Because it's 1999 when they're in the second half of the fourth grade (that was shown in the summer special), it could be a millennium party.
We could get Arnold, Gerald, Helga and Phoebe together to celebrate, on Arnold's roof maybe? A great opportunity for some Arnold/Helga moments, and some Gerald/Phoebe in the background.. Grandma would probably dress up as a bunny and hide easter eggs XDD Ernie would have massive firework bombs which he kept under his bed for months XD And are there any american traditions on New Year's Eve? Here in Holland people dive in the sea on New Years Day, even though it's freezing outside And we count down at new year's eve, and at 12:00 sharp everyone lights their fireworks, and the sky is filled with colors, everywhere you look ^^ And than lot's of champagne, there's special champagne (like apple juice) for the kids.. And of course, we kiss our loved ones, and wish em a happy new year, when the clock hits 12 XD
Of course we'd need a great story, adventurous or dramatic.. but with a great ending and lots of fireworks ^^

Re: Holiday Special
This millennium started in 2001! (Yeah, I'm a pedantic freak.)
One of the holidays that has to be made into an episode is July 4. It should be about independence. The character(s) should show that they can be independent, or that it's difficult to be independent etc.

Re: Holiday Special
I have no idea what July 4th is about. LOL. All I know is that it's some American holiday ;s Can we do a holiday where most of the countries celebrate?

I think the idea of a New Year's episode is awesome! XD Especially Grandma dressing up like an Easter bunny (even though it's not Easter) and hiding eggs. XDDD Hilarious. If we do a New Year's episode, I think we should keep it light and funny.
Re: Holiday Special
July 4th is the United States Independence Day, ger5632. It generally involves shooting off fireworks, being patriotic and proud to be American, for those of us who are American. I do agree with you though. I think we should keep holidays specials where most countries can celebrate.
Re: Holiday Special
And we don't celebrate thanksgiving and halloween here either, still it's fun to watch ^^
So that wouldn't be a big problem..
The only problem with a July 4th episode would be that they did it already. In the thanksgiving episode, the boarding house celebrated July 4th.. So we'd have to copy part of an old episode, or let grandma celebrate another holiday with the boarders again XD
So I think New Year's has more opportunities.

Re: Holiday Special
One does not contradict to another. We could make both.
Hey Arnold deals with holidays in a special way: while most cartoons just play with the holiday attributes (Thanksgiving turkey, Christmas tree and Santa Claus, Easter bunny etc.), Hey Arnold! plays with the meaning of holidays.
Thanksgiving: about being grateful for the family you have
Christmas: about one little sacrifice that can make happy so many people
Veterans: that all the veterans have to be respected no matter what they were doing
Bar Mitzvah: about taking responsibility
Halloween: about how much fun it is to scare people
Valentine's: well, that's obvious
Therefore it does not matter that the boarders already had July 4 fireworks. We don't need the holiday attributes, we need their meaning:
July 4: about being independent
New Year's Eve: about beginning of a new period of life

Re: Holiday Special
I'm up for both a July 4th and New Year's Ep. Maybe a Groundhog's Day one (I don't know if this is just a US thing either or if maybe it's just a PA thing or something....)? There's Easter, but I'd like to try and shy away from religion if we can.
I'm mostly excited for a New Year's Ep though. There's something powerful about that night. :3
Also! Just a thought, but I would love to revisit Valentine's Day somehow. I don't know if that's a super good idea, but I think we've all wondered about what would have happen if we ever had a follow up to Cecile. I also think it'd be a good set up for TJM, where Arnold kind of realizes who this fake-Cecile is by the end of it, but it's not explicitly stated that he knows. :3

Re: Holiday Special
Yeah Groundhog's Day would be cool. I would like to try something similar to the movie. We could make a character to live through dream-within-dream-within-dream-etc., so s/he would feel like the same day is coming again and again.
And I would not want to touch Easter too. I see no meaning in this holiday besides occult one, and I don't think we should go there.

Re: Holiday Special
I think a New Years episode would be great! And revisiting Valentines day and Cecile would be awesome. We have a whole new year so we can do all the other Holidays as well if we want/can, just different than the specials. I mentioned this in another thread, I think. Like Halloween could be a Graveyard Girls vs Boys, who can scare the other more on Halloween night, type of deal. Or something like that |D

Re: Holiday Special
About Valentine's: Several years ago I was discussing an idea of a St Valentine's-based fanfic, and I proposed a scene. Arnold asks Helga to help him to pick a good gift for Cecile. Of course Helga picks what she wants. Arnold thinks her ideas are nonsense. Helga and Arnold end up quarreling after he tells her that she has no idea what a real girl would like to have. There is no way his Cecile would want to receive the Complete Illustrated Encyclopedia of Wrestlomania. Right?
Re: Holiday Special
Do you celebrate "Father's day"? Episode devoted to Helga and Bob, about ther relationship and etc...
I'm not against the New Year's episode. Merely idea flashed in my mind...

Re: Holiday Special
Hey i never thought about that! St. Patricks day could be a great holiday episode!
There should be a joke of someone (possibly Harold) not wearing green and the kids pinching him/her x]
